Registered & Chartered Forensic Psychologist
Matthew is a Chartered and Registered Forensic Psychologist who specialises in providing psychological assessment and therapeutic intervention for high risk offenders. Matthew worked for HM Prison Service and the National Offender Management Service for over 11 years and was part of a regional team of Psychologists managing the most complex and challenging individuals in Welsh prisons and Probation Service. He worked with a variety of offenders, but developed particular expertise in working with violent and sexual offenders, many of whom presented with traits of personality disorder or psychopathy. In addition to his practitioner work, Matthew also managed the Psychological Services at an open prison, provided training and supervision, and led a project developing an intervention package for offenders who had committed domestic abuse.
In recent years Matthew has worked in independent practice providing psychological consultancy, assessment and intervention to prisons, probation offices, courts, youth offending teams and social services. He regularly provides expert witness testimony at prison Parole Board hearings and to the courts. He has also been involved in a joint National Health Service and Criminal Justice Service project aimed at managing high risk offenders within the Criminal Justice System who are likely to have personality disorder.
Matthew has published research on offender treatment in prisons and motivation amongst sexual offenders. He has presented his work at regional and national conferences. He has provided training and supervision to a variety of individuals and is an associate lecturer and supervisor at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
