Nicol is a Trainee Forensic Psychologist, currently undertaking a Postgraduate Diploma in Forensic Psychology at Cardiff Metropolitan University. She has over eight years’ experience of working with offenders in both secure and community settings, primarily within mental health services. During this time, she has developed experience in providing violence risk assessment reports to both Mental Health Review Tribunals and Parole Board Hearings. Nicol has also delivered training to a range of NHS and prison service staff on violence risk assessment and formulations to inform risk management plans using Structured Professional Judgement tools, such as HCR-20 Version 3. She has also developed specific experience in delivering therapeutic interventions aimed at reducing psychological distress and enhancing emotional regulation skills.
Nicol currently provides psychological assessment and therapeutic interventions across a range of settings, including prison, secure and community. She also provides psychological assessment and therapeutic interventions for young people and families who have been referred by the Looked After Children service. Nicol has particular interest in the complex needs of those who have experienced developmental trauma, attachment theory and the impact of delivering trauma focused services.
