EMDR is internationally renowned for being an effective therapy to treat symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Anxiety, Depression and Phobias. People can do EMDR at any age, and we adapt the process to suit the client's needs.
EMDR supports people who have experienced traumatic events such as abuse, war, tragic accidents, and bereavements. Such experiences are examples of "Big T" traumatic events that often lead to symptoms of PTSD. EMDR can also support people who have experienced "Small t" trauma, including bullying, humiliation, disappointments, and rejection. Over time, these "Small t" traumas can lead to feelings of low self-worth, Anxiety, and/or Depression.
Whether it is "Small t" or "Big T" traumas, they can have a significant impact on wellbeing. EMDR treats the root causes of symptoms which can change the ways that we think about and cope with past experiences. As with any therapy, EMDR can only work if the person feels ready to change their situation. They need to have the skills to cope with what may come up during the therapy, and if the skills are not there, these will need to be taught before they undergo EMDR.
At FPC UK Ltd, we offer EMDR therapy and will ensure, through consultation with you, that you are ready to start EMDR. If you need sessions to support you in developing coping skills first, your therapist will tell you this following your initial consultation, and you can book sessions to build your coping resources before you start EMDR with them.
