Our Approach

Experts with compassionate insight

Forensic Psychology UK Ltd (FPC) is an independent provider of psychology services.  We help individuals, and those working with them, to understand risk, trauma, personality, neurodiversity, mental health, and crime.

Our team consists of Chartered and Registered Forensic / Clinical Psychologists, Trainee Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists.

What we do / We offer two types of service

1. We work directly with individuals to provide an assessment or programme of therapy.  We accept referrals from legal representatives, courts, prisons, social and health services, as well as directly by members of the public for these services.

2. We work with organisations and teams that manage or care for vulnerable groups and services users who present with psychological difficulties such as trauma, offending behaviour, neurodiversity, personality disorder and mental health problems.

Our Vision

Psychology can sometimes be perceived as a specialist discipline with knowledge and skills that can only be accessed by the privileged few.  We don’t believe this.  We think everyone has the capacity to increase their understanding of themselves and others, and Psychology provides a means to do this.  Psychological knowledge should not be retained by a small proportion of ‘experts’, we think everyone should be allowed the opportunity to learn something from the discipline.  WE WANT TO SHARE WHAT WE KNOW.

We do this by working with individuals; completing assessments and therapy helps to increase self-understanding and consider ways to change.  Our assessments and therapy also help those working with the individual or making decisions about them, to understand their presentation and behaviour.  This can be particularly important when a person presents as a risk to themselves or others, or presents with complex needs.

We also achieve our goal of sharing what we know through working with organisations and teams.  Our training and consultancy provides psychological knowledge and strategies to help organisations and teams develop a psychologically informed approach to working with their service users.  We provide bespoke and contracted psychology service provision to a range of organisations and teams who require psychology input, but do not want to employ a psychologist or team of psychologists.

Our Values

Understanding human behaviour can be challenging, especially when a person has harmed themselves or others. Psychology provides a lens to look beyond the behaviour and understand the person behind the act.  Whilst risk management is paramount to our work, we believe that developing people’s strengths is equally, if not more important.   In doing this we can PUT HUMANS FIRST and treat people FAIRLY AND JUSTLY.

It is a privilege that individuals and the staff working with them let us glimpse into their lives.  We often talk about sensitive issues that can have significant impact on someone.  Therefore, we believe in DOING THINGS THE RIGHT WAY.  Our staff are all appropriately qualified and trained in the most up to date psychological theory and techniques.  We use evidence-based approaches so that those we work with can have confidence that they are getting the best treatment.

To help with making psychology accessible to all, we select and train our team to deliver work in a FRIENDLY, APPROACHABLE AND UNDERSTANDABLE WAY.
