Feeling Safe an intervention package to help people who have been affected by traumatic events.
Many people who attend our health, social and criminal justice services have experienced a traumatic event during their lifetime. This can take the form of a single event, such as a car accident, but also be linked more complex events, such as suffering abuse during childhood.
The current recommended treatment pathways for trauma can be complex and costly, meaning that the majority of people do not receive professional help. This can leave the individual with ongoing symptoms such as emotional problems, difficulty sleeping and increased anxiety.
Feeling Safe is a short and compassionate psychoeducational intervention aimed at helping people who have experienced trauma to better understand and manage their symptoms.
Forensic Psychology Consultancy (FPC) is a psychology practise that has developed expertise in working with trauma. We have assessed and treated over 500 clients who have experienced trauma and have found that a combination of skills drawn from Compassion Focussed Therapy and Positive Psychology can help. The skills incorporated into Feeling Safe are practical, easily taught and acquired.
Feeling Safe is not trauma treatment, which is a more complex and specialised process usually undertaken by Psychologists or skilled therapist. However, it draws upon skills usually taught in the early stages of trauma treatment, which are used to assist everyday functioning and help people feel more empowered in their lives.
FPC can provide your service with the necessary manual, materials and staff training to deliver Feeling Safe to your service users.
